Oral History

Voices of the past provide us with vital information about families, communities, and our nation as a whole. Oral history is a modern form of recording history and is older than the written word. Typically, oral history is conducted through personal interviews in which the interviewer guides the interviewee with his or her own questions about certain topics. After the interview is complete, the contents are transcribed, or typed, and inserted into files or digitized for online records. Oral history can also be captured through stories, folklore, and poetry.

Be sure to read our interviews, poetry, stories, and more from citizens of Wythe County who have graciously lent their words to share with our community and beyond.
